Defense contractor grows footprint Northwest of Boston by more than 50%, adds new positions to the state’s high-tech workforce

SI2 Technologies, a leader in designing and manufacturing electromagnetic systems for military and government platforms constrained for space, weight and power, today announced that the company has expanded its facilities by more than 50% to 23,000 square feet.

This expansion enables SI2 to increase its testing, manufacturing, and government compliance capabilities as well as hire 10-15 new staff members for positions ranging from engineering to finance, and contracts to security.

Established in 2003, SI2 designs, develops, delivers and supports products for the defense and aerospace markets that not only enhance the warfighter’s effectiveness, but provide increased protection against current and emerging threats. The company takes projects from ideation and design to product manufacturing and testing. As the company’s capabilities have matured and expanded, the need for additional space became evident.

“We recognized that we were rapidly outgrowing our space a few years ago, and this investment will not only spark additional growth but will enhance our capabilities in the manufacturing and security sectors of our business,” noted SI2 CEO Dr. Joseph Kunze. “As we continue to develop solutions for difficult antenna system and signal mitigation challenges that address the Department of Defense’s most pressing needs, we remain a small and nimble company that consistently provides meaningful solutions to the marketplace.”

The expansion consisted of two phases. The first phase, concluded last fall, included a 5,000 square foot expansion in a building located directly across from SI2 headquarters that is used for new product development and testing. Phase two, which was recently completed, is a fully built-out addition adjacent to SI2’s existing footprint that will increase the headquarters’ square footage by nearly 4,000 feet. This addition will house both new offices and customer approved facilities.
