Road to Responsibility (RTR), one of the region’s largest and most successful nonprofit organizations supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is proud to announce it recently held COVID vaccine clinics for its group home residents and staff members. Clinics were held February 2 through February 12.

In October, RTR learned that the Centers for Disease Control would partner with CVS and Walgreens to offer onsite COVID-19 vaccinations for residents and staff of congregate care programs, and immediately signed up for the initiative. Once RTR was notified that the clinics would be scheduled in each of their group homes, short informational videos and articles were shared to provide additional information, and house managers contacted guardians with consent forms. In all, 182 RTR individuals and 240 employees received their first dose over the last 10 days, and RTR residential nurses were on hand at each clinic to assist.

“This past year has been very difficult for our residents, and for our employees,” said Julia Barruzza, residential nurse supervisor for Road to Responsibility. “I am excited to get the vaccine to protect myself, protect my family, protect my community, and protect the individuals we serve. The vaccine is our ticket to some semblance of normalcy.”

“We’re thrilled to partner with Walgreens on this truly life-saving initiative,” added Christopher White, Ed.D., CEO of Road to Responsibility. “And we’re so grateful to our staff and to everyone who helped coordinate the myriad logistics to make these clinics happen.”

About Road to Responsibility, Inc.

Celebrating over 30 years of making lives better, Road to Responsibility, Inc. (RTR) was established in 1988 with the overarching belief that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities deserve to have full, rich, and rewarding lives in the community, and therefore works to provide the means, the opportunity, and the support necessary to allow citizens with disabilities to take their place as productive members of the community. RTR offers residential, work/employment, day habilitation and other day supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. RTR supports individuals with very diverse needs, including those with significant challenges who would otherwise go unserved if not for RTR. It succeeds where other organizations often fail, through the use of an integrated clinical behavioral approach. This model has proven successful and yielded positive results for the organization and the individuals served.
