Boston law firm Sherin and Lodgen LLP announces that four of its attorneys spoke to classrooms in two elementary schools and one high school as part of the Boston Bar Association’s (BBA) Law Day in the Schools Program. Now in its 33rd year, the Program allows attorneys to present lesson plans on the American legal system to classes from Kindergarten to 12th grade in Boston’s public schools.

This year’s theme is “Free Speech. Free Press. Free Society.” It was chosen so as to help students understand the importance of free speech rights in creating an equitable society. On May 3, Daniel C. Johnston, associate in the firm’s Real Estate Department, spoke to sophomores and seniors at Charlestown High School in Charlestown, MA, and Barbara T. O’Toole, associate in the firm’s Litigation Department, spoke to second grade students at Josiah Quincy Elementary School in Boston, MA. And on May 16, David I. Brody, associate in the firm’s Employment Law and Litigation Departments, andDavid A. Michel, associate in the firm’s Litigation Department, teamed up to speak to fourth grade students at Haley Pilot School in Roslindale, MA.

The BBA Law Day in the Schools Program reaches 1,500 students with diverse backgrounds in schools located within the 21 different neighborhoods of Boston. The goal of the program is to teach children how to identify issues, develop a framework of supporting arguments, and respectably show support for an issue or advocate for change.
