Howard Apartments, a Veteran’s Supportive Housing community managed by Peabody Properties, a full-service real estate and property management firm (http://www.peabodyproperties.com), was recognized with a Community Advocate award from the state Department of Veterans Affairs during a recent reception held at the West Roxbury Division.

The Homeless Veterans Community Recognition reception honored Peabody Properties for its collaboration with Howard Apartments, a permanent supportive housing community for formerly homeless veterans located on the Brockton VA Medical Center in Brockton.

The nomination was put forward by Judith Lipton, Boston HUD-VASH (Department of Housing and Urban Development-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing) Program Manager; Cheryl Simmons, Brockton VA HUD-VASH Supervisor, and Sheena Calixte, a HUD-VASH Social Worker assigned to Howard Apartments.

In their speech during the September 20th event, Lipton and Simmons praised the Peabody Properties/HUD-VASH/Howard Apartments partnership, saying the alliance “has far exceeded our wildest dreams.”

They added that Peabody Properties “goes the extra mile in providing all the essentials – a furnished apartment as well as bedding, glasses, silverware, towels, pots and pans, etc. – to help someone who is formerly homeless to start off on the right foot.

“Peabody’s understanding of the HUD-VASH ‘Housing First’ model in working with HUD-VASH to best support a resident in maintaining a successful tenancy is also comprehensive and compassionate,” they added. “Peabody Properties is an incredible partner and we feel blessed to have been given the good fortune to work with them.”

The VA Boston Healthcare System’s Health Care for Homeless Veterans Program, of which the HUD-VASH Program is the largest, holds a community awards recognition event annually to thank its outstanding partners in the mutual quest to end veteran homelessness.

“We are so grateful for this recognition,” said Jacquelyn Larivee, Resident Services Manager at Howard Apartments. “We highly appreciate the wonderful collaboration with the HUD-VASH team, as they provide the residents with excellent, efficient, and highly responsive case management that enables our residents to thrive in their living situations.”

“What an honor to be recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs with a Community Advocate Award,” said Karen Fish-Will, Principal and CEO of Peabody Properties, Inc. “We are proud of our Howard Apartments community and are thankful to work with such a great VASH team in Brockton.”
