Sacred Heart School Integrates Robotics into Elementary Curriculum

6/26/18

The academic year may be drawing to a close but Sacred Heart School, a private, Catholic, co-educational school for students in preschool through grade 12, is already thinking ahead to the 2018-2019 year by integrating robotics curriculum into the elementary classrooms.

In 2016, Sacred Heart introduced KIBO – a robot kits specifically designed for children ages 4-7 – into its Kindergarten curriculum. Based on that success, the school recently instituted SPHERO robotics at the elementary level. The spherical robot is controlled by a smartphone or tablet and is collaborative with STEAM (Science, technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) activities to nurture students’ imaginations.

“Robotics has proven to be a natural learning tool for young children,” said Sister Myra Rodgers, CDP, President of Sacred Heart School. “Our kindergarteners and now our elementary school students are benefitting from this exciting educational approach.”
