Off-Price retailers have enjoyed years of fast growth at the expense of traditional retailers helped by the bad conditions of the retail industry in North America, which has lived 2-3 difficult years characterized by high inventory levels as a result of a strong imbalance between supply and demand. Off-price retailers such as TJX (TJX), Ross Stores (ROST) and Burlington Stores (BURL) could gain market share and expand their offerings thanks to a significant inflow of merchandise at attractive prices generated by retailers’ destocking activity. Off-price retailers were gaining market share aggressively, and many were pointing to them as one of the main responsible of the retail apocalypse of 2015-2016.
