Matthew Palmer has been named a senior supervising engineer for wind and thermal power in the Boston office of WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global engineering and professional services organization.

In his new position, Mr. Palmer will be supporting the efforts of the firm’s renewable energy group—part of the U.S. industrial and energy sector—with a focus on expanding WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff’s role in the U.S. offshore wind market. He will also work on thermal generation projects as a project engineer and project manager.

Mr. Palmer is a power industry professional with over 30 years of experience in the acquisition, development and management of power generation assets. His areas of expertise encompass conventional technologies as well as renewables, including wind and solar energy. He has provided engineering, project management, and operations and maintenance services on power generation facilities across the U.S. and abroad.

Prior to joining WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, Mr. Palmer was a commercial development consultant with Calpine Corporation, and previously served as chief operating officer for EMI Power Systems in Boston. He also served as executive director of Clean Power Now, an organization that was founded to promote renewable energy projects.

A licensed professional engineer in Massachusetts, Mr. Palmer received an M.B.A. from Suffolk University and a B.S. in marine engineering from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the National Association of Power Engineers.
