Akamai Settles SEC Chinese Bribery Probe for Less Than $700K

Akamai (AKAM +0.2%) has agreed to pay $652K plus $19K in interest to avoid bribery charges related to payoffs of Chinese officials by its local subsidiary.

In February, Akamai stated in its 2015 10-K it's "conducting an internal investigation, with the assistance of outside counsel, relating to sales practices in a country outside the U.S. that represented less than 1% of our revenue in each of the years ended December 31, 2015, 2014 and 2013." The company added the SEC and DOJ were notified in Feb. 2015.
