The Peabody Companies' Stony Brook Court Collaborates with Sharon Fire Department

9/9/20

The Peabody Companies, a group of award-winning property management and real estate firms, proudly announces that Stony Brook Court in Sharon is working in collaboration with the Sharon Fire Department, the Sharon Housing Authority, and town of Sharon officials/employees and volunteers and state officials to deliver food items door-to-door to local residences in an effort to build a food security infrastructure for the community’s elderly and disabled residents.

What is soon to become a formalized food program had its beginnings in March when the novel coronavirus required people to shelter in place and common areas in residential communities like Stony Brook Court were being closed off.

Stony Brook Court’s property manager met with the Sharon Fire Department to assess common areas at the residential community located at 51 Hixson Farm Road and obtain recommendations to make the spaces safer.

As they were removing common area furniture to eliminate or strongly discourage congregation, they came upon several boxes of baked goods that had been delivered by an anonymous donor for Stony Brook Court residents. The donor was identified and the food items were then put through a thorough safety process adopted by the Sharon Fire Department.

In addition to Stony Brook Court residents, the Sharon Housing Authority was contacted to determine which of their residents might benefit from this generosity as well.

The wheels of kindness continued to roll with the Sharon Fire Department collecting monetary donations and in-kind contributions for delivery to seniors in need. The Sharon FD worked alongside Stony Brook Court staff, the Sharon Housing Authority, town of Sharon officials/employees and volunteers and state officials to deliver food items door-to-door to the residences. Local jazz musician Mark Berney performed outdoor concerts during food delivery days at Stony Brook Court, which residents enjoyed while maintaining proper social distancing. As a whole, approximately 200 households have benefited from the food donations on a biweekly basis.

In collaboration, the agencies are now working diligently to expand food access and provide a better food distribution infrastructure for elderly and disabled communities at Stony Brook Court and the Sharon Housing Authority by formalizing a food program that is expected to self-sustain during the pandemic, inclement weather, emergencies, power outages, etc.

“What an amazing testament to compassion all around, from the original baked goods donor to all of the staff, agencies, officials and citizens involved,” said Adam Kenney, vice president of operations for the Peabody Companies. “Proud doesn’t begin to describe how the entire Peabody Companies family feels about such a positive measure during these times of great uncertainty.”
