Johnston, RI Campus Receives Award for Best New Large Workspace

Cushman & Wakefield, a leading global real estate services firm, is pleased to announce that Citizens Bank’s campus in Johnston, RI received the 2019 CoreNet New England award for Best New Large Workplace. Rob Learnard and David Varone, Senior Project Managers for Cushman & Wakefield’s Boston Project & Development Services team, were the development managers for the project.

“This project was two years in the making and we’re proud to have delivered a premiere workplace experience with the latest amenities to our client,” said Varone. “We’re honored to receive this recognition from CoreNet for our team’s ongoing commitment to raising the bar in customer service and delivering exceptional results for our clients.”

Varone and Learnard led the PDS team in the design, permitting and construction of the 425,000 SF 5 building campus, a 1,265-space parking garage, new on and off ramps from an interstate highway, as well as 1-1/2 miles of new sewer main, 2 miles of new water service and an onsite 1-million-gallon water tank.

The completed workplace consolidates three separate locations in Rhode Island into a single campus of four interconnected buildings. The design of the campus is meant to enhance the workplace experience, improve colleague engagement by bringing 3,000 coworkers together from disparate offices, and promote work-life balance.

Varone has 30 years of architectural and construction experience with major firms and institutions in Boston and Rhode Island, including 20 years of project management experience. He has been with Cushman & Wakefield for more than three years and specializes in providing services to commercial and institutional clients.

Learnard has over two decades of project and development management experience in commercial real estate and has worked in partnership with Cushman & Wakefield for three years in Tampa, Atlanta and Providence.

David Hawkins and Steve Ernst of Cushman & Wakefield’s Tampa office and Pete Hayes of Hayes & Sherry represented Citizens Bank from the brokerage side.
