Jay Nuss “Electrifies” Commercial Real Estate Market with Energy-efficient Electric Car

9/5/18

Jay Nuss is an “electric” figure on the commercial real estate scene-figuratively, and now literally.

The veteran commercial real estate broker-consultant logs in hundreds of miles per week in viewing properties and meeting with clients throughout Southeastern Massachusetts and sometimes beyond, and works long days, starting at the crack of dawn and usually late into the evening. As someone whose business model includes managing environmental issues on properties for sale or lease, Nuss has always had a deep and strong concern for the environment.

So it made sense to him that, when the Braintree Drives Electric program, sponsored by the Braintree Electric Light Department, his favorite department in his home town of Braintree, began promoting electric vehicles, he should investigate.

And that investigation led him to purchase an i3 BMW all electric vehicle. “The offer and incentives were strong, and I feel good about doing my small part to contribute to the green and healthy movement,” he said. “Of course, any business owner needs to be careful to plan ahead, and that’s definitely true with an electric car.”

Nuss noted that, to his surprise, there are a number of charging stations where there is no cost to re-charge a vehicle. He added, however, that even at the stations where there is a fee, the overall average of the cost to keep an electric vehicle charged corresponds to an equivalent rate of about $1/gallon, or about 33% of what gasoline-powered vehicle owners spend on fuel.

“I am looking forward to this experience and am encouraging others to do their part by considering electric as a form of transportation,” he said, adding, “I firmly believe that I can make it work in my business and I think it signals my company’s commitment to energy efficiency.”

Joanne Owen of Braintree Drives Electric noted that the demand to “go electric” continues to rise quickly, and Massachusetts approved more EV (electric vehicle) rebates in May than ever before. “The prices are great, the environmental impact is enormous, and Braintree Drives Electric is here to offer as much support as we can, as we make Braintree a shining beacon for those determined to create a greener, healthier future for our children.”

Braintree Drives Electric has hosted many Ride and Drive events over the last two years where people can see and test drive the EVs (plug-in vehicles) and speak with local owners. The next event is Saturday, September 8, at Braintee High School and is one part of Braintree’s National Drive Electric Week efforts. In addition to support and discounts, BELD offers special incentives for EV owners who charge their vehicles after 9 p.m. on weekdays and by noon the next day.
