Global architecture, interiors, and master planning firm Spector Group has been tasked with (re) imagining the accounting office workplace as part of a major national roll out for Marcum LLP – one of the largest independent public accounting and advisory firms in the nation.
The first in the series to undergo this repositioning is a 50,000-square-foot two-story space for Marcum LLP’s Boston location at 53 State Street. Architecturally dynamic, an open-office environment concept is planned on the 17th and 18th floors of the building. It’s a unique concept from the accounting industry norm, which typically resists the idea of a workplace design that energizes their staff and clients alike.
The Spector Group design focuses on an organized, yet abstract, open plan emanating throughout the entire multi-level Boston office. The corridor free plan features a fluid environment with floating glass cube executive offices with team and department areas surrounding in a living room like atmosphere. There are many alternative collaborative work areas to meet collectively, sharing the synergy and energy of this new space.
Encouraging a spirited environment for team members and clients, the design includes multiple bistro/cafe areas per floor. This lively atmosphere is accentuated with a Marcum “meeting place” where all meet, relax, talk, play, drink and eat in a playful environment that advocates stimulating interaction by all.
“This refreshing hip space pumps up the “wow” factor to new levels - perfect for staff and client interaction and development. You would be surprised how much work and comradery is achieved over a competitive playful game of Wii” says Michael Mannetta AIA, lead designer of Spector Group.
The design of these cutting-edge work surroundings serves to distinguish Marcum from competitors as a firm in the forefront of its industry that continues to attract and retain top talent and foster business growth with a unique environment which focuses on the best of today and the unique promise of its future.
“Our redesigned Boston office will showcase how Marcum is building for the future,” said Jeffrey M. Weiner, the firm’s managing partner. “We are a company of entrepreneurs who work with entrepreneurs, and we want to use our office to help attract and retain the business professionals who want to be part of our mission to help our clients and our firm grow and succeed.”
In addition to recruiting outstanding new hires, Marcum believes that re-inventing their place of business with a new animated and energized workplace, will gain significant acknowledgement and recognition for their forward thinking from partners and employees alike.
“The mindset of service firms is changing and Marcum is leading the path by thinking ahead of its competitors,” said Marc B. Spector, AIA, NCARB, principal of Spector Group. “Its vision for changing the way its offices operate will blend together all levels of the firm’s workforce in a way that will allow multiple generations to be productive and happy in the workplace.”
