Firm Now Serves Two of Connecticut’s County Bar Associations, as Attorney Joseph Cherico is Current President of Fairfield County Bar Association

McCarter & English attorney Thomas J. Rechen accepted the gavel as President of the Hartford County Bar Association, effective May 4, 2020. Rechen, a partner in McCarter’s Litigation and Intellectual Property practices in Hartford, Connecticut, has been in practice for more than 30 years, representing clients in complex business disputes involving intellectual property, unfair competition, trade regulation and real estate matters. Of note, Joseph Cherico, managing partner of McCarter’s Stamford, Connecticut office is the current president of the Fairfield County Bar Association. The firm is proud to be representing lawyers, judges, paralegals, and law students in two of Connecticut’s most populous counties, to promote the administration of justice and to uphold and improve the professional and educational standards of the legal profession.

Rechen commented, “It is a unique time to take over the helm of the Hartford County Bar Association as we address the many changes our profession faces as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We will continue work within our community, and will offer workshops on topics ranging from online depositions, to career networking for young lawyers, to safeguarding the mental wellness of all lawyers.”

Both Rechen and Cherico exemplify the firm’s commitment to the legal profession as well as to community service. Rechen is well known not only as a litigator among the Connecticut state and federal judiciary, but also for community service, including positions on the board of the Greater Hartford YMCA, the Connecticut Public Defender Services Commission, the Talcott Mountain Science Center for Student Involvement, Inc., and the World Affairs Council of Connecticut. Cherico is a recipient of the firm’s “Changing Lives Award” in recognition of his pro bono work with the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center (CVLC). The CVLC has likewise recognized Cherico as a “Pro Bono All-Star.”
