DLA Piper is pleased to announce that Cara Nelson, a Real Estate partner in the Boston office, has been named as one of the 2019 Top Women of Law by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. The Top Women of Law award highlights outstanding achievements made by exceptional women lawyers who represent professional, civic and mentoring achievements in the Massachusetts legal community.
Nelson was recognized for her work as a leader on some of the most important real estate matters the firm has handled in the US, including Oxford Properties Group’s investment in over US$4 billion in class A office space in Boston over a short timeframe as well as Oxford’s investments in New York and Washington, DC. Her commitment to the community was another reason she was chosen for this award; she is particularly proud of her service as a member of the Board of Directors of Heading Home, Inc., a Boston-based non-profit that provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, permanent housing, and supportive services to homeless and formerly homeless families and individuals throughout the Greater Boston area. With her colleagues, she has led the firm’s Boston office in Heading Home’s popular volunteer program “Up and Out” by fully furnishing and decorating multiple apartments in Boston for formerly homeless families.
Cara Nelson’s practice focuses on representation of pension funds, investment advisors and other institutional real estate funds in acquisitions, sales, joint ventures and financings of all asset types. She spends a significant amount of her time representing foreign pension funds in complex joint venture negotiations with both domestic and foreign joint venture partners for the purpose of investing in class A office projects and development projects in gateway cities throughout the US.
