An Interview with Wellesley Family Law Attorney, Wendie E. Murstein, Esq., Partner at Fields & Dennis LLP

7/21/19

Wendie E. Murstein Esq.,

Tell me about your firm?

My firm is a family law practice, which involves several areas of which families are an integral part.

Tell me about your specific practice? What type of matters do you work on?

My specific practice is focused on divorce—whether that be preparing prenuptial agreements, any aspect related to divorce, including custody, support (both child support and alimony), property division, business valuations, issues with inheritances, and modifications and contempts after the divorce is over. I also deal with paternity cases for those that were never married.

Any examples of a really interesting or challenging case you worked on and got a great result?

While I can’t talk about specific cases that I worked on, and often it is difficult to say you got a “great result” for a client, the cases that stick out in my mind are when the case is finally resolved (whether it be through trial or settlement) and the clients who were once so upset are appreciative of the hard work that goes into their cases.

What made you want to become a lawyer?

I grew up with my grandfather who was a lawyer. Back when he practiced law, there were no specialties; however, he always told me his most interesting cases were the family law cases. He felt like you could do the most for those clients, and he always felt like it was rewarding to help someone in such a difficult situation. I feel the same way.

What is the best piece of advice you ever received?

Always stay true to who you are.

What tips do you have for other lawyers?

I would give the same advice to lawyers that I got. Despite how others treat you, be kind, courteous and respectful.

What do you like to do outside of work?

When I am not working, I’m spending time with my 3 children or at the gym.

Is there anything about you that might surprise others?

I have a twin sister and my brothers are twins.
