Helene Horn Figman Completes MCAD Training on Conducting Internal Discrimination Complaint Investigations

Helene Horn Figman, an employment law specialist and attorney of the Law Offices of Helene Horn Figman, P.C., recently completed “Conducting Internal Discrimination Complaint Investigations,” the latest training program presented by the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD), which was held earlier this month.

“Conducting Internal Discrimination Complaint Investigations” is an interactive training that explores employers’ responsibilities to conduct internal discrimination complaint investigations, presents effective methods for conducting a comprehensive investigation, and gives participants the opportunity to practice investigation skills using realistic case scenarios.

This course allowed Attorney Figman to hone the skills she already uses to conduct internal investigations for employers in order to complete an effective and thorough inquiry. The program specifically addressed the standards necessary to determine if policy violations have occurred, and to prepare a cogent report for the organization and/or its legal counsel.

Figman is an attorney with over 30 years of experience with employment law and human resources matters. She has served as an Administrative Hearings Officer for the Massachusetts Commission against Discrimination. Attorney Figman has hands-on experience creating personnel policies and trainings that are tailored to the specific needs of each of her client’s unique businesses, addressing significant subjects such as social media and workplace violence as well as unconscious bias, anti-discrimination and anti-harassment trainings.

“It is essential for a business to have a user-friendly investigation process and one that prohibits retaliation,” said Figman. “This course was a great reinforcement of tools and processes needed when called in for an internal investigation as a result of one or more employees complaining about sexual harassment, or another type of harassment or discrimination.”
