Dayton Benway Takes the Reins as Managing Principal of the Firm

Baker Newman Noyes (BNN), one of the nation’s top 100 accounting and advisory firms, announced that Dayton Benway is now leading the firm as Managing Principal. In this role, Benway sets the strategy and direction of the firm, upholding its reputation for top-tier client service and technical excellence.

“I am excited to be working with the principal group to implement our new strategy across the entire firm, and guide Baker Newman Noyes as we move into our next chapter,” said Benway. “We are almost 25 years old, and I am extremely proud of our strong history. Our profession and the business world in general are changing rapidly, and to meet the demands of tomorrow we must adapt. The next chapter of BNN will bring intentional and strategic growth internally and externally.”

In addition to leading the firm, Benway will continue to serve as director of the firm’s growing healthcare advisory group. Benway has more than 21 years of experience advising hospitals, rural clinics, physicians’ groups, home offices, nursing homes, and home health agencies on healthcare financial management matters. Benway joined BNN in 2000 as a staff member in the healthcare advisory group, and throughout his career has led efforts to grow the practice into one of the premier healthcare advisory groups in the Northeast.

As non-traditional CPA firm services become more important to growth, Benway’s ability to develop a team, create a culture of business development and accountability, and his transparent leadership style are qualities the firm’s management committee sees as essential to the position.

Benway was selected to succeed Carl Chatto as managing principal at the end of 2018. Chatto served as managing principal following the retirement of firm co-founder Eleanor Baker in 2016 and will continue to serve clients as a principal in the audit practice.

“On behalf of the entire firm, I want to thank Carl for his successful leadership. I am humbled by the confidence the BNN principal group expressed in selecting me as the next managing principal,” said Benway. “I plan to work with the entire firm to grow our service offerings and our geographic markets while offering our employees the opportunity to grow personally and professionally. We will achieve our goals by providing excellent client service using a collaborative team approach, investing in the communities we serve, and communicating in an open and honest manner across all of our channels.”

In 2018, Baker Newman Noyes ranked among the top 100 accounting firms in the United States and among the top 5 in New England for a third consecutive year, according to annual rankings compiled by industry publication Accounting Today. The firm received a 2019 Best of Accounting award for providing superior client service by independent ranking firm ClearlyRated.
