ACEC/MA Announces Environmental Partners as a Winner of their 2020 Silver Engineering Excellence Award

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named Environmental Partners as a winner of their 2020 Silver Engineering Excellence Award for their work on a Biofilter Technology System for the town of Newburyport, MA.

The 2020 Engineering Excellence Awards were recently announced and will be celebrated at the 2021 ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence and Awards Gala. The awards celebrate innovation, ingenuity, and excellence in engineering achievement.

Environmental Partners (EP) was hired by the city of Newburyport to act as Project Design Engineer and identify the sources, concentrations, and constituents of the odor sources, and design the needed upgrades to alleviate them. The Newburyport Massachusetts economy relies on its marketability as a riverfront and coastal destination for historic, cultural, entertainment, and recreation attractions. Despite the amenities Newburyport offers, wastewater odors had been a longstanding problem. The public demanded a quick, reliable, and comprehensive resolution, and the City promised to deliver. The solution was a unique integrated approach, combining multiple approaches to odor prevention and control, and coordinating capital improvements with process upgrades. Environmental Partners applied source control with a new biofilter technology where there was no room for error. Since the project completion there have been no odor complaints.

Celebrating 23 years, Environmental Partners (EP) is an award-winning multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm built on the core philosophy that a strict focus on client service through partnership creates added value for their clients. While headquartered in Quincy, Massachusetts, EP has 3 regional offices including Woburn serving the North Shore and Southern New Hampshire, Hyannis Serving Cape Cod and the Islands, and Middletown Connecticut serving Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. EP provides a broad range of services to municipal, commercial, industrial, and institutional clients.

“The Engineering Excellence Awards program recognizes engineering firms for projects that demonstrate a high degree of achievement, value and ingenuity,” said Jennifer Howe, President of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts and Principal and Vice President at SMMA, Symmes Maini & McKee Associates. “Entrants are rated by an independent panel of judges from the architectural community, the construction industry, academia, the media, and the public sector on the basis of uniqueness and originality; future value to the profession and perception by the public; social, economic and sustainable development considerations; complexity; and successful fulfillment of the client/owner’s need, including schedule and budget. We congratulate them and thank them for their contributions to improving the quality of our everyday lives.”
