Sarah Beckwith
The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) has named Harvard student Sarah Beckwith as a recipient of the 2020 Education Corporation Presidents’ Scholarship.
A native of Mt. Washington, NH, Beckwith is sophomore at Harvard University working towards her a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. At Harvard, she is involved with Engineers without Borders, serves at the Publicity Chair for the Harvard College Engineering Society, and Treasurer of the Harvard Women’s Ultimate Frisbee Team. Beckwith has served as a Board Member on the Mt. Washington Historical Society, where she grew up. During breaks from school, Beckwith works in Great Barrington as a Land Surveying Intern, where her colleagues say she “constantly wanted to learn” and “never missed a day.” In her essay, she states that “Engineers push the boundaries of the future” and “make people’s lives easier to live.”
The ACEC/MA Education Corporation Presidents’ Scholarship is an annual award designed to encourage and reward students studying engineering or land surveying. It was established in 2009, is funded by donations from ACEC/MA members and supported by the Scholarship’s annual fall golf tournament.
“The Presidents’ Scholarship is one of the many ways ACEC/MA recognizes emerging industry leaders,” said Jenn Howe, President of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts and Principal and Vice President at SMMA, Symmes Maini & McKee Associates. “We congratulate Sarah on her outstanding achievement and have every confidence a career in Civil Engineering will bring her much success and great satisfaction.”
