Boston-based nonprofit raises money to fund their community of temporary apartments for families of children being treated for cancer

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, a time to acknowledge the thousands of children and their families who are dealing with a cancer diagnosis, raise awareness about the reality of childhood cancer, and emphasize the importance of research. Boston-based nonprofit, Christopher’s Haven, celebrates and supports children and families going through cancer treatment this September, and every other month of the year.

Founded in 2001, Christopher’s Haven is a 501(c)(3) organization located in Boston, Massachusetts with a mission to operate a supportive community consisting of nine temporary apartments and a community recreation area for families of children being treated for cancer in nearby Boston hospitals. Their ‘haven’ is more than a place to stay, it’s a support system to help with things large and small, and a community where families can be together, share a laugh, be comforted, and comfort others.

Over 450 families to date have stayed in the fully furnished and equipped apartments located at One Emerson Place (across the street from Massachusetts General Hospital). Families value the proximity to the area medical centers, treasure the ability to be together in an apartment setting and cherish the much-needed support with other families facing similar circumstances during interaction in The Loft.

This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Christopher’s Haven aims to bring awareness to the work that they do and raise funds to support this work. COVID-19 has forced them to cancel the bulk of their fundraising events, but childhood cancer doesn’t take a break and Christopher’s Haven is dedicated to continuing to support children and families who have been effected by cancer while ensuring they have a safe and comfortable place to call home during treatment.

Christopher’s Haven will be encouraging supporters to donate throughout the month via their DonorPerfect page, https://bit.ly/3b0oV0o. To see firsthand the impact Christopher’s Haven has had, you can view their YouTube-athon which went live in May.
