The South Shore Chamber of Commerce, is pleased to announce a new Transportation Advisory Group that will focus on transportation priorities that promote economic growth for the South Shore. The work will be through the Chamber’s Economic Development Corporation.

Chamber President Peter Forman said the group’s goal is to “identify transportation priorities that are most closely tied to the region’s economic future. Their recommendations will become a blueprint for the Chamber’s Transportation work and political advocacy for the next few years”

Former Braintree Mayor Joe Sullivan and Janice Bergeron, CEO of RND Consultants, have been named Chair and Vice Chair of the effort to create the Chamber’s new transportation agenda The advisory group will focus on two large topics—Boston area commuting and commuting/congestion within the region. Sullivan has been a member of the Chamber’s Economic Development Corporation. Before being elected Mayor of Braintree he served as House Chairman of the Legislature’s Transportation Committee and helped write an earlier transportation agenda for the Chamber prior to becoming Braintree’s first Mayor. Sullivan said “The Chamber has always been seen as a regional leader in advocating for the transportation needs of the South Shore. That leadership will be more important than ever as our economy begins to change.”

Bergeron is a Marshfield native and the principal of RND Consultants in Boston which works on transportation and real estate development projects. She predicted the group’s work “will look at more than just the commute to Boston. If the region is to see real economic growth we need to address transportation within the region and connecting employees with jobs through other means than just Mass Transit and the Southeast Expressway.”

“The Advisory group is heavily weighted with people who have deep expertise in transportation and will be a strong resource in advising the Chamber’s Board” Forman said. The other members include:
