Break a Leg Theater Works, one of the premier performing arts programs on the South Shore, recently announced it is offering the “Hamilton” experience as part of its virtual August line-up, which has been created to keep students safe while also making a life-long impact. The “Hamilton” experience will be offered online from August 10 through August 14.
Other programs being offered by Break a Leg Theater Works throughout the month include the “Beauty and the Beast” experience with BAL alumna Lauren Masterpolo (August 10-14, ages 8-14), the “Hairspray” experience with Broadway’s Michelle Dowdy and friends (August 18-20, ages 8-18), the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” experience with Lauren Masterpolo (August 17-21, ages 8-14), and a Tap Master Class Clinic with Broadway’s Richard Riaz Yoder (August 9, August 16, August 23, ages 12-18+).
Additionally, BAL’s Music Director Arman Mohammad will offer a “Let’s Write a Musical” workshop on August 11, 13, 18, and 20 (ages 12-18), Justin Lahue will offer “Setting the Stage: Scenic and Lighting Design for Theatre” on August 24, 26, and 28 (ages 12-18), and Lauren Masterpolo will host a BAL College Prep Workshop and Panel Discussion, featuring BAL alumni, on August 8 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Auditions for Break a Leg’s new Performance Troupes will also take place on August 15 (ages 8-18).
The “Hamilton” experience is an extraordinary online performance arts camp that will examine the hit musical and feature three actors from the Broadway and touring productions as guest teachers. Thayne Jasperson (understudy to King George) from the original Broadway company and film will teach the dance component. Blaine Krauss (standby to Hamilton, Burr, King George) from the Philip tour will teach acting and music as will Paige Smallwood (standby to Eliza, Angelica, and Peggy) from the Angelica tour. Students will not only learn music and choreography from the show, but will also analyze the characters, script and score in a deeper fashion. This experience will also include a virtual performance of material from the show. Auditions for parts will be held during the week for specific roles; there will also be a Q&A and panel discussion with the guest teachers.

Break a Leg Theater Works is a small, nonprofit theater company founded in 2016 by directors Kyle Wrentz (from Broadway’s The Lion King), and Healy Sammis (from Boston’s Medieval Manor), and based out of Marshfield, Mass. The students of BAL have worked with such artists as Hamilton and So You Think You Can Dance star Thayne Jasperson, “Young and the Restless” star Daniel Hall, Derrick Davis, who currently plays the Phantom in the national tour of The Phantom of the Opera, and other Broadway stars.
