Road to Responsibility (RTR), one of the region’s largest and most successful non-profit organizations dedicated to serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, recently received a donation of critical personal protective equipment (PPE) from the Massachusetts Emergency Management Association (MEMA).
Specifically, MEMA provided Road to Responsibility with 10,400 surgical masks, 4,000 medical gloves, 100 face shields, and 1,000 bottles of hand sanitizer. These supplies will go far toward supporting RTR’s efforts to reopen their day programs.
Road to Responsibility continues to face several challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, including ensuring the daily safety and health of their staff members who continue to serve and care for more than 200 individuals in RTR residences, and the added expenses associated with additional staffing and the acquisition of needed PPE.
Community organizations and state agencies have provided some welcome relief for the nonprofit, which has received donations of both money and PPE.
“This donation is crucial toward alleviating some of the stress we feel as an organization, and we are so grateful to MEMA for stepping up and supplying Road to Responsibility with the masks, gloves, face shields and hand sanitizer,” said Christopher T. White, Ed.D., president and CEO of Road To Responsibility, Inc. “This is a challenging time for everyone, and we want to do all we can to assure our staff members that we have the personal protective equipment they need, as well as provide our individuals with the supplies they need to stay safe and healthy too. MEMA went a long way today to making sure that these needs are and continue to be met.”
