Clearview Capital Fund III, L.P. announced today that its portfolio company, Nielsen-Kellerman Co. and its affiliates, have completed the acquisition of Ambient, LLC. The transaction closed on December 6, 2019.

Nielsen-Kellerman is a designer and manufacturer of premium environmental and athletic performance measurement instruments. For more than 40 years, Nielsen-Kellerman has developed innovative solutions for outdoor enthusiasts and professionals to provide the user with real-time data to make critical decisions. Kestrel® branded products measure local environmental conditions and perform end market-specific calculations that are used in a multitude of end markets. NK branded products measure athletic and watercraft performance and provide audio amplification solutions for paddle sports participants.

Ambient Weather is a designer and marketer of weather stations and environmental monitoring instruments based in Chandler, AZ. Ambient Weather has also developed and hosts a powerful cloud-based weather platform to provide users with real-time conditions and a repository of historical weather data for personal and professional use. Ambient Weather’s suite of products and services allows users to set weather email and text alerts for their phone, tablet or desktop, and can connect to the Internet of Things (IOT) through IFTTT, Amazon Alexa®, Google Home®, and a powerful API, to name a few.

“Ambient Weather and Kestrel represent an ideal partnership for bringing accurate, accessible weather monitoring to people when and where they need it,” said Nielsen-Kellerman’s CEO, Alix James. “The addition of Ambient Weather to the Kestrel Instruments brand will bring fixed weather stations and a cloud-based weather platform to Kestrel’s position as a market leader in handheld weather instruments for numerous consumer and industrial applications.”

“Together Kestrel and Ambient Weather offer a complete suite of weather products for every customer, supercharging our efforts to make weather data shareable and more collaborative for anyone,” said Ed Edelman, Chief Technology Officer and Founder at Ambient Weather. “No matter where you live or what business you are in, weather impacts your activities on a daily basis. I’m energized by the potential of these two brands joining forces.”

“We are excited to partner with Ambient Weather at this stage in Fund III’s investment period. Fixed weather stations were the next logical hardware extension for Nielsen-Kellerman given its well-developed expertise in reliable environmental data capture,” said Brent Simon, Vice President at Clearview Capital. “The feature-rich cloud platform provides significant avenues for growth for both brands as end users demand real-time, actionable intelligence in their personal and professional lives.”
