Sacred Heart School, a private, Catholic, co-educational school in Kingston for students in preschool through grade 12, takes great pleasure in announcing that Jennifer Uribe, a member of the Class of 2015, is the recipient of a 2019-2020 Fulbright Scholarship grant.

As such, Uribe, from Plymouth and presently a senior at St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont, will instruct English in Malaysia for one year. Her scholarship is through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, the largest U.S. exchange program offering opportunities for competitively-selected students and young professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and primary and secondary school teaching worldwide.

“As one of the most prestigious and competitive fellowship programs in the world, I'm so honored to be representing the United States as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher in the beautiful multilingual country of Malaysia,” said Uribe. “I would like to thank all my educators, both in high school and college, who have shaped, advised, and carved me into the woman I am and continuing to become today. I deeply appreciated and thank you for everything you do -- I believe educators cultivate the most change in the world and I can't wait to begin my journey as one on the other side of the world!”

“It is always rewarding to hear about the achievements of our students, both past and present,” said Sacred Heart High School Principal Dr. Michael Gill. “Jennifer was a notable member of the Class of 2015 and I am so proud of her remarkable distinction as a Fulbright Scholar.”

“What a joy is to learn that one of our own has been named a Fulbright Scholar!” said Sister Myra Rodgers, CDP, President of Sacred Heart School. “We are confident that Jennifer’s high school career here at Sacred Heart helped pave the way to a rewarding career as an educator.”
