Five runners recently participated in the 2018 New Balance Falmouth Road Race on behalf of Road To Responsibility (RTR; http://roadtoresponsibility.org), one of the region’s largest and most successful non-profit organizations.
Cassie Brown of Milton, Sarah Collard of Hingham, Rebecca Nidositko of Hingham, Doug MacAuley of Hingham, and Steph Charron of Weymouth ran the seven-mile course on Sunday, August 19. The five runners raised $7,472 on behalf of Road To Responsibility.
The New Balance Falmouth Road Race was established in 1973 and has become one of the premier running events of the summer season. Each year the race draws an international field of Olympians, elite runners and recreational runners out to enjoy the scenic seven-mile seaside course. The non-profit Falmouth Road Race organization is dedicated to promoting health and fitness for all in its community. Proceeds from the race each year support youth athletic programs in the town of Falmouth and other non-profit community groups. Massachusetts-based charities raised a record $4.1 million in 2017.
“Our Falmouth Road Race runners are amazing,” said Christopher White, Ed.D., CEO of Road To Responsibility. “These five runners not only trained, but also fundraised on behalf of the more than 1,300 people we serve every day. We are so grateful for their efforts, and to the entire community for supporting our runners, and our organization.”
“Our runners worked hard to meet their running and fundraising goals,” added Serenity Belo, Director of Development and Communications for Road to Responsibility. “They were so creative in how they raised money – some hosted work-out fundraisers at local gyms, and another runner sold lemonade in her neighborhood. They really had fun with it. We are so proud of them, and the work they put into this. What was really humbling was that they did all of this for more than 1,300 people they’ve never met, but who will benefit tremendously from their efforts.”
About Road To Responsibility, Inc.
Celebrating 30 years of making lives better, Road To Responsibility, Inc. (RTR) was established in 1988 with the overarching belief that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities deserve to have full, rich, and rewarding lives in the community, and therefore works to provide the means, the opportunity, and the support necessary to allow citizens with disabilities to take their place as productive members of the community. RTR offers residential, work/employment, day habilitation and other day supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. RTR supports individuals with very diverse needs, including those with significant challenges who would otherwise go unserved if not for RTR. It succeeds where other organizations often fail, through the use of an integrated clinical behavioral approach. This model has proven successful and yielded positive results for the organization and the individuals served.
