Founded in 1986, Celgene (Nasdaq: CELG) is a leading research company for medicines treating cancer and inflammatory disorders. For many years, Celgene was one of the companies with extraordinary growth rates – especially the stock price development between 2009 and 2015 was impressive (+550%). But in 2015, the company began to stumble (at least according to the stock price) and the chart picture mostly shows a declining trend.
However, the end of the bullish trend for Celgene is no surprise when one knows that many similar individual companies also stumbled in the years after 2015 – Gilead Sciences (Nasdaq: GILD) would be a prominent example – and the entire sector has been declining or moving sideways since then – represented for example by the iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology ETF (Nasdaq: IBB).
