Evergage, the real-time personalization platform company, today announced the appointment of Cliff Lyon as vice president of engineering. With more than two decades of experience in engineering and technical leadership – including a focus on personalization, targeting and recommendation systems – Lyon will work closely with Evergage’s CTO and co-founder Greg Hinkle to support and scale the engineering organization. Lyon will also oversee research and development, technical engineering, and Evergage’s product management and planning process.
“Delivering true real-time, 1:1 personalization for a range of diverse industries – and doing it on a massive scale – is an exciting technical challenge that our engineering team has worked hard to solve,” Hinkle said. “As our customers embrace the benefits of advanced personalization, Cliff’s background and expertise in machine learning and artificial intelligence will help us accelerate platform innovation and development.”
Lyon will report directly to Hinkle and be based out of Evergage’s headquarters in Somerville. Before joining Evergage, Lyon spent the last 20 years in technical roles in software engineering, data warehouse infrastructure and personalization technology. Prior positions include head of technology recommender systems at StubHub, senior director of personalization and targeting for CBS Interactive, and director of personalization and targeting at CNET Networks. Most recently, he served as CTO and technical co-founder of Pylon ai, Inc., an artificial intelligence company that builds custom experiences for Amazon Echo and Google Home. Lyon earned a Master of Liberal Arts in information technology from Harvard Extension School and a Bachelor of Arts in music from Wesleyan University.
“After working on standalone enterprise solutions for personalization, recommendations and multivariate testing, I am very excited to join Evergage,” Lyon said. “What really impresses me is how the company has been able to deliver these capabilities in a single, unified platform. It represents great engineering – which, of course, is great for customers – and Evergage’s success to date clearly demonstrates the power and potential of 1:1 personalization. I’m happy to be part of the team that is turning the 1:1 vision into reality.”
The expansion of Evergage’s engineering leadership team builds on a year of strong momentum for the company – including a Series C funding round and honors in the CODiE Awards, Stevie American Business Awards, Best in Biz Awards and more. Last month, Evergage published the 175-page book and well-received industry guide “One-to-One Personalization in the Age of Machine Learning,” co-authored by Evergage CEO and co-founder Karl Wirth.
