Object Management Group Announces Cybersecurity Workshop in New Orleans on September 28

NEEDHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Object Management Group® (OMG®), an international, open membership, not-for-profit technology standards consortium, today announced it will host the OMG Cybersecurity Workshop at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans Hotel on Thursday, September 28, from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Registration is $149 and is open to the public.

The OMG community strives to contribute through the management of programs such as the Consortium for IT Software Quality™ (CISQ™), Cloud Standards Software Council™ (CSCC™), and the Industrial Internet Consortium® (IIC®),” says OMG Vice President and Technical Director Larry L. Johnson. ‘’Crucially, OMG provides industry specifications, such as SysML® and Unified Architecture Framework®, to model secure systems and the Data-Distribution Service™ specification to build secure data transports.”

Dr. Ben Calloni, Lockheed Martin Fellow and Co-chair, OMG Systems Assurance Task Force, will begin the Workshop with a cybersecurity primer for executive leaders, managers and engineers. Robert A. Martin, Senior Principal Engineer, MITRE and Steering Committee Member, Industrial Internet Consortium,will discuss the driving concepts behind creating the safe, secure, and reliable Industrial Internet of Things ecosystem.

OMG chairs of IT standards task forces and representatives from Advanced Systems Management Group, CAST, cébé IT and Knowledge Management, Consortium for IT Software Quality, General Dynamics Mission Systems, KDM Analytics, Model Driven Solutions and PTCwill present the following sessions:

  • Security Views in the UAF® (Unified Architecture Framework) from Matthew Hause, GTM Solutions Specialist, Fellow, PTC; Co-chair, OMG UAF Task Force
  • Model-based Cybersecurity Assessment from Dr. Nikolai Mansourov, CTO, KDM Analytics

  • Cyber Information Sharing and Safeguarding from Mike Abramson, President and CEO, Advanced Systems Management Group; Co-chair, OMG C4I Domain Task Force; Chair, IEF Working Group
  • Cloud Security and Data Residency Considerations from Claude Baudoin, Owner and Principal Consultant, cébé IT and Knowledge Management; Steering Committee Member, Cloud Standards Customer Council
  • Code Quality Standards and Technical Debt Management from Dr. Bill Curtis, Executive Director, Consortium for IT Software Quality; SVP and Chief Scientist at CAST

The Workshop will conclude with a panel discussion on the topic of “Cybersecurity: Cost vs. Protection.” The penalties for getting cybersecurity wrong are steep. According to research firm Gartner, the average lag time before a breach is detected is 205 days. At the same time, many companies offer high-priced cybersecurity solutions and services, from small, specialist outfits to giant arms companies. Panelists will discuss how to choose the right solution and to balance it within budget.
